Bryn's new hobby - Rat Watching!

We are rat sitting for a month or so and Bryn has been glued to the cage like doggie tv!

He's been a bit wobbly for a couple of days but actually has a bit of pink colour in his tongue when usually it's grey.

Just over a week ago Bryn had a couple of pretty low days where he kept having low oxygen spells and was going down several times a day. I talked to Rob and wondered if I should let him go. But then I felt panicy as I knew what would happen if they couldn't find a vein and couldn't put him through that.

Anyway after those 2 days he seemed to perk up a bit and gather strength again so I sure am glad I didn't call the vet. He seems to had evened out once again and his body is compensating somehow for the lack of blood cells, yes he still has feignting episodes most days but if I can stop him getting excited they are less.

Bryn is still on antibiotics daily and he now has JWB with a spoonful of seaweed, an immune support supplement and half a banana a day. I have also found that by giving him a small breakfast and a few snacks during the day helps to keep his energy levels a bit more even and helps to prevend him running out of steam.

We have a pair of pet rats here on holiday which Bryn spends his every waking moment fixed on them, neither him nor the rats dare to move so they remain locked in a sort of trance like state for ages and ages! He's also obsessed with the kittens at work and spends his time outside stalking them and dribbling when they come and rub round his legs!

A quick update on Bryn: Every day this little fella amazes me, despite his fragile health he is devoted to me and squeals with excitement and gives a little yip when he knows it's time to go to work in the mornings. When I wake in the night or morning the first thing I do is feel down the side of my bed to find Bryn in his bed next to mine. I can hear his tail thumping and if he does get up he furnishes me with a big pointy nose in the face, a snuffle behind the ear almost always followed by the appearance of 2 front legs and the scrabbling to get on my bed. I have to heave him on to the bed as he isn't strong enough to get up on his own,, then he will torment me until I stroke him at a constant pace......whatever difficulties have been thrown at this young dog his spirit remains intact and fighting strong.

He has been having more fainting atacks when he gets up too fast or gets worked up so I try to avoid those situations, and if he does go down I sit quietly stroking him for a little while until he comes round again, looks at me, gives a little wag and gets up to carry on with whatever we were doing.

With the weather being quite damp and gloomy Bryn is feeling the cold a bit so he is back in his coolex coat until the heating is on at night just to keep him comfy

The last week Bryn has been much the same, he did have another turn on Thursday last week which was quite distressing, he just went down in a faint I guess and then lay for a bit with his eyes open but not really with it, it felt like ages but I guess it was only 20 seconds or so. I sat and cuddled him then he came round put his head up and was ok again. This episode did make him a bit tired and he slept a lot then for about 24 hours or so and then perked up again.

Silly sod missed the last few steps on the stairs yesterday morning and fell down and landed on his head, so from now on he will have a steady hand on his collar to catch him if he stumbles. Rob carries him up to bed at night as he can't get up the stairs any more, he holds him so his legs are going through the motions and tip tapping on the stairs but he isn't actually taking himself up, but he still thinks he is!

His colour is very very pale, almost milky white so it must be down to all the positive thoughts people are sending him that's keeping him going, he's a happy little chap and still bright and interested in everything, really enjoying life and eating up his meals and piggy ears, or anything else he can sneak off people.

We just keep up with the antibiotics and I add kelp and a herbal supplement in with his dinner which may be helping?
